Along the Indiana–Illinois border, Wolf Lake Memorial Park anchors the city’s outdoor attractions with more than 400 acres of lakefront recreation, including kayaking, canoeing, boating, fishing, walking trails, picnic areas, a floating boardwalk and an aquatic play center. The lakefront also hosts concerts and festivals throughout the year, including the popular Festival of the Lakes.

The Hammond Lakefront Park & Bird Sanctuary is a hidden gem along Lake Michigan, featuring a wooded wildlife refuge that serves as an important stopover for migratory birds traveling between Canada, Mexico, and Central America. Birdwatchers can follow rustic trails through the sanctuary in search of warblers, thrushes, sparrows, and other species rarely seen elsewhere in Northwest Indiana.
